We are in
the perfect position for visiting the local vineyards, châteaux and surrounding
regions, St.Emilion, Monbazillac and Bordeaux. There are four good golf courses
in the area and facilities nearby for fishing on the rivers Dropt or Garonne.
There is a lake at nearby St Sernin with sandy beaches , horse riding is
available 3 km away at St Pierre sur Dropt, tennis may be played at the
village court in Levignac de Guyenne and bicycle hire is available from
bicycle shops in Duras or Ste Foy. During the summer from approximately the 2nd week in July to late August, there is a fabulous Friday night market/barbecue
with live entertainment on the market square in Levignac de Guyenne.
The beaches of the dune-studded atlantic coast are an
hour and half away.
Lot-et-Garonne is the Tuscany of France! An undiscovered jewel. Lévignac, a walled village
in the middle ages, is set on a hilltop surrounded by meadows, woods, and fields
of sunflowers and cereals, plum orchards and vineyards. There is a café/bar
in the village. The mediaeval town of Duras, the regional centre, is 6 km away.
The Château de Duras, overlooking the Dropt valley, is open daily.
Nearby there are open air cafés and first class restaurants, where you can enjoy local
cuisine such as foie gras, magret de canard, confit de canard accompanied by
the famous local wine, Côtes de Duras, one of the most ancient appellations
in France. There is a market in Duras every Monday morning, which brings a festival
of colour throughout the town. In the surrounding villages and fortified towns,
you will find 12th century romanesque churches, beautiful châteaux, wine
tasting, local produce, open air markets, brocante, antiques, and classical
concerts. There is an abundance of wildlife in the area: wild boar, deer and
rare birds.
